Zephyr James (they/them)

Hi! I'm Zephyr. I have been called to this work since I was a toddler, taking daily walks around my apartment complex to find dead frogs, gently scooping them up with that day's junk mail to provide them proper burials. As I grew up, I experienced several tragedies and significant life transitions, deepening my relationship with grief and identity. I also came to understand my role in the family system as someone who was there to process the unmetabolized grief, guilt, and rage that had invisibly shaped everything around me. My adult years have been a continual process of healing, peeling back the layers of myself, and finding authentic joy amidst death and rebirth.

Outside of my doula work, I primarily work with parents and families of youth who are neurodivergent, LGBTQ+, and/or experiencing suicidality. I can sometimes be found consulting with organizations on culture and leadership, offering research and writing within academia, or sharing my personal poetry.

Some identity labels that describe me

Queer, transgender/nonbinary, parent, trauma survivor, polyamorous, dynamically disabled, chronically ill, neurodivergent (burned out former "Gifted Kid"), highly sensitive, intuitive.

Relevant influences

I have received training in death doulaship, yoga nidra, breathwork, yoga for small spaces, and herbalism. I have benefitted from deep in-person learning from Eli Lawliet (The Gender Doula), Santina Giordano (Craniosacral Therapist & EFT Practitioner), Sandra Bachman (Womb Healer), and Stephanie Kroack (ERYT-500 Yoga Teacher Trainer, Master Reiki Practitioner, Ayurvedic Practitioner).
